Kate's Crafts Glass Studio

Kate’s Crafts is a venture that is constantly shifting direction in order to remain the creative outlet for Kate herself. Her most recent foray into the world of glass has been a particularly rewarding one. Through this site she shares a few of her favourite creations, a glimpse of her “studio”, and a shop through which she makes a few pieces available to others.

Her most recent endeavours comprise recycled glass art – shallow dishes, spoon rests, wall hangings, and wind chimes – all made out of 100% recycled glass bottles. While she can’t begin to use all of the waste glass available in the Birmingham area, she is proud to do her small part to assist in the re-use of what would otherwise be thrown away. These recycled pieces are currently the focus of the online store.

Although committed to recycling, Kate can’t resist the colours and textures available in art glass, so she also produces “new” glass creations. These are primarily kilnformed shallow plates, bowls and tiles – as well as occasional smaller pendants, key fobs, and similar trinkets which typically feature dichroic glass. The online store does offer a selection of kilnformed art glass although availability may fluctuate. Kate has put together a few copper foil “stained glass” panels but generally leans towards warm glass.

Finally, Kate loves “crafting” with her kids. We love to experiment with various media, and as a general rule find the messiest projects to be the most rewarding. All of our projects are faithfully supervised by Scally the Shop Dog. Rounding out the online store we have selected some of our neater projects to share, and offer a few craft kits suitable for kids of all ages.

A native of Planet Earth, Kate has lived too many places to mention but is currently settled in Birmingham, AL.
